About the Book
End-of-summer camping is supposed to be a peaceful experience. Jen just wants her parents to stop fighting long enough to roast s’mores, Donna is scheming to overcharge rubes for fireside tarot readings, and Jerry is looking to finish a few cheap beers in peace. But at Lake Lobo, not everything is as it seems. Beneath the dark waters, evil is rising—and if the campers want to make it out alive, they’ll have to fight for their lives.
Lake of the Damned brings the “campy” back in camping horror, with terrifying set pieces that will make you laugh, shiver, and wonder how the hell anyone is going to make it out alive.
A Note from the Author
Lake of the Damned combines high-octane undead chaos with dark humor in a novella that’s both thrilling and fun. This novella is my first foray into writing horror, and naturally, I couldn’t do it without a few laughs.
I have been fascinated with horror since my teen years, even if I’m admittedly a wimp when it comes to watching or reading in the genre. Movies like Dawn of the Dead (2004) and 28 Days Later scared the absolute crap out of me but were also intriguing. These films inspired me to write undead that are brutal, fast, and relentless. But, on the other end of the spectrum, Army of Darkness taught me that zombies can also make you laugh, in a chaotic, deadly sort of way.
My goal with Lake of the Damned was to marry these disparate styles into a short, bite-sized novella that’s easy to read and hard to put down. Whether you’re an avid reader or someone just looking for a fun, cinematic adventure, I hope you’ll give this story a chance and enjoy the ride.
As an indie author, every read, review, and kind word matters. Thank you for taking the time to check out my work. If you enjoy it, please share it around and consider exploring my novels, The Nick Ventner Adventures. These books follow a drunken monster hunter on journeys across the modern-day world as he confronts creatures that aren’t supposed to exist. They’re witty, sarcastic, and jam-packed with action.
